When you are in Dubai, a day trip to Abu Dhabi is highly recommended – especially a trip to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. It is the largest mosque in Abu Dhabi and this white gem is a key attraction as well. I was taken aback by the sheer size of it and of course, its exquisite architecture; imagine a dramatic sight when you stepped out of the escalator from basement and this stunning white mosque greeted you there and then.
As stated on CNN Travel, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was ranked as the World’s second and third favorite landmark according to TripAdvisor in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The top spot goes to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. I can only imagine how much maintenance work goes into this mosque.
I’d recommend engaging on a guided-tour in which you can find many tour providers online. It usually includes hotel pick-up and the duration (From Dubai to Abu Dhabi) takes around 1.5-2 hours. We went on a tour and shared with 2 other families. In fact, it was a comfortable ride and the day trip even included an authentic lunch experience at an Emirati/Lebanese restaurant. Nonetheless, I would definitely recommend you to have a hearty breakfast before heading for this trip.
Did I mention that this tourist attraction offers free entry? The queue may be long but they have an effective and efficient system that saves everyone’s time. They even provide abaya for ladies. For men, they do provide long pants but I’d recommend not to wear berms ya.
