Seminyak – 7 Cafes To Go

Bali, Southeast Asia
Another entry on Bali… but this time is on Seminyak. Just a few hours away from Singapore, Bali is really a good place for a perfect getaway. If you are looking for chic and hip cafes, getting a relaxing massage, sunset view at a beach, then Seminyak is the place to go.

For first-timers researching the places to go in Seminyak, you can refer to this list:

1. Nook Café for lunch
2. Motel Mexicola for afternoon snacks (You can go there at night again and it’s a totally different vibe)
3. Sea Circus for dinner (Cozy and chill vibes. Must take a shot at its entrance door)
4. Bodyworks spa (Must book this!) Highly recommend for its scrub and massage in a private room for 2.
5. Sisterfields Café for breakfast
6. Revolver Café for coffee
7. Potato Head Club (Sunset view)
8. La Laguna for dinner
9. Sundari Spa (Must Book)
10. Mad Pops (For some IG worthy shot with their ice-cream)
11. Re-Day Spa (For cheap and good massage)
12. Merah Putih (Fine dining at its best)
13. Kynd Community

Here’s sharing some of the places:
1. Nook cafe
Their Nasi Campur had great reviews but I always order their smoothie bowl.

This was how Nook Cafe looked like when I was there last year in July. It still offers good view then but not anymore when there’s buildings sprouting around it. It is still a good place to rest and relax for first-timers.

2. Motel Mexicola
This is an IG-worthy haven. Every corner promises the best background for you to InstaSpam. haha.
Usually I’ll drop by for some afternoon snacks and whereby there’s lesser crowd to take some decent OOTD shots. I heard it has its own beauty at night.
3. Sea Circus
You would have seen this colourful pic on your IG feed and wonder where exactly it is. Just across Motel Mexicola, near Bodyworks Spa, and 5 mins walk from the beach, is Sea Circus. It has extended further to a new colourful shop named Neon Palms, just beside it. Would have loved to try Neon Palms but was still under renovation.
It offers a wide range of healthy food – acai bowl, healthy bowl with tons of avocado, tacos, fruit juices and protein smoothies. This place is usually packed with crowd during dinner time.
4. Revolver Expresso
For those rock punks and badass vibes. Few minutes walk from Sisterfields cafe, you can get a cuppa of coffee after solid breakfast at Sisterfields. Their outer seating area offers this indie vibes which has the best light somehow for a series of candid shots. They have non-smoking and smoking area; with different segments/themes for all.
5. Sisterfields Cafe
Second time here for brekkie, same order for their shakshuka eggs! This time we were given ‘alfresco’ seating area. It is on a pricier range which will set you back around SGD25-30 for a main course and coffee.
6. Kynd Community
This newly opened vegan cafe is the next IT place for everyone to hang out during breakfast. Verdict of their food: I think I may take some time to get used to vegan food.
7. Merah Putih
This place is more of a fine dining restaurant rather than a cafe. Advance reservation is needed and this is a good place to spend anniversaries and date nights. I personally requested this place to have my birthday dinner. 🙂
Last but not least, if you are craving for some fine dessert, try Mad Pops! There were few people in the stores queuing to get this IG shot.
Hope this entry is useful and will be back with more adventure updates!

Bali Trip – Ubud

Bali, Southeast Asia
Bali is an amazing place. I would find myself going back again and again, exploring different places and re-visiting old ones. My recent trip there includes 5d4n in Ubud and Seminyak and this entry would feature mainly Ubud. Hope it helps for those planning to go there.

We stayed at Kupu Kupu Barong which is 10-mins drive away from Ubud city centre. It has an awesome breakfast from their restaurant La View.

Right after breakfast, we set off to Wanagiri Hills. We booked a driver via a well-written blog and contacted the driver named Agus. it was prolly one of the best decisions made in this trip. He was very helpful in giving us tips on where to go, and he has an awesome photography skills too. I would highly recommend you to engage his services and you and your IG acct will be in safe hands.
His IG acct: @agoesmoeliadi

Our first stop was Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. I have always seen this picture used by most travel sites but now I can finally say I have been here! We were blessed with beautiful weather = super hot and clear blue skies.

Agus even knew there’s a rock underneath the place I’m sitting and instruct me to sit here for an IG-worthy spot. *Thumbsup*
We then went to nearby Handara golf club and to our surprise, now they charge entrance fee just to take photo at this Handara Gate. Clever business tactic as tourist will just pay for the nominal fee to go and snap that IG photo and leave. That’s us haha.

Thereafter, we went further up north and explored Wanagiri Hills. The locals have recently built some IG-worthy spots – The bird nest, swing etc and they charge a nominal entrance fee for visitors who wish to enter and take photos. As you drive along, you can see a whole stretch of locals imitating one another and building the same nest and swing.

We stopped over at Twin Lake to have lunch at a local eatery, admiring the scenery. Next, we went to Banyumala Waterfalls and we survived a steep hike – we were totally not properly dressed haha. We had to drive in a 3km narrow path only to stop at the entrance before we began the hike down. Well, the journey was worthwhile at the end.
Before sunset, we went to cafe pomegranate for light snacks before we went to Campuhan Ridge Walk to catch sunset. We were deliberating between cafe pomegranate and sari organik but it seems like more and more villas are being built around the rice fields. Till now cafe pomegranate still offers the best unobstructed view so far.
There was a large crowd at Campuhan Ridge Walk with everyone snagging the hottest IG spots. After sunset, we went back to Ubud City Centre to have dinner at Clear Cafe.
At Ubud traditional markets, you can find alot of straw bags and souvenirs. For those who wants to own a straw bag, usually the sellers will quote you 400,000 rupiah (SGD 40), which I had bargained to SGD 20. I suppose that is the price you should be paying for the straw bags.
For spa and massage places, we tried Sang Spa 2 for 1.5 hr full body massage at SGD30 (after tax) and it is more of a upscale massage place. If you just want a good massage, any massage place you see along the main stretch of Ubud City centre should be fine;  the only difference would be the cleanliness and vibes of the spa place. The massage technique is mostly the same. On our second night in Ubud we tried Tirtha Wangi Spa, which is one of the massage places along the city centre. We had 2.5 massage package at SGD25 per pax which includes body massage, scrub, foot massage, floral bath, fruits and drink.
Before our massage at Trirha Wangi Spa
Third morning, Kupu Kupu surprised me with a birthday cake during breakfast! 🙂 They have great customer service. We went to visit Ubud Palace and had our coffee fix at Anomali Coffee.

We then set off to Tegallalang rice terraces which was a 25-min drive away from city centre. We endured another cardio workout lol going down and climbing up to get some shots under the sorching hot sun at noon time. Well, we were beyond sunkissed and sun burnt. We then settled for lunch at Teras Padi Cafe. 🙂

In summary, Ubud offers more sightseeing such as padi fields, waterfalls which has proven to be a good getaway and working nomads stationed there. Transport wise, it’s more expensive as compared to that of Seminyak as the local drivers would quote a fixed price while the latter (Blue Bird Taxi in Seminyak) goes by meter fare. Food-wise, Ubud is definitely cheaper compared to Seminyak.
Will plan for a trip back to Bali real soon.

La Laguna in Canggu, Bali

Bali, Southeast Asia
Upon our trip to Bali, we specially planned a trip to La Laguna located in Canggu. It is a spanish tapas restaurant on the secluded, northern most end of Seminyak. In fact, it’s about 20 mins ride away from our hotel, Four Points by Sheraton.

Think of gypsy and bohemian style for this awesome place. Of course, it is also known as one of the most instagrammable beach clubs.

As you walked along the trail, these gypsy looking cottages lined up and there’s even a fortune teller in one of them!

There’s plenty of seats around with these laid back bean bags around a campfire, alfresco seating on the bridge facing the sea, high bar stools and indoor dining as well.

As you can see, it is definitely the most IG-worthy place you got to visit while in Bali. It just feels like you are being transported to another part of the world. If you are heading Bali, head to this place for a memorable dining experience!

Bali – Ubud Swing

Bali, Southeast Asia

My recent Bali trip was really packed but fun. One of the main factors that triggered me to go to this trip was this Ubud Swing.
I saw some IG posts on this and was wondering where is this swing located. Yes it looks daunting. But all of us like some excitement in our life right?
So I did some extensive research on Google and Instagram and found that it’s located at this airbnb place named Zen Hideaway. It’s in Ubud and I was thinking to myself, let’s go there since it’s just less than 3 hours flight away from Singapore. But the journey there proved to be long – my fren and I stayed at Seminyak and we hired a chauffeur to drive us there for a day trip.

We waited for around 30 minutes before it’s our turn. And we witnessed a lady who slipped off and hang onto the swing with both arms before she took off. Fortunately her friends and her driver helped her up. She was saying that the platform was slippery and it didn’t help she was wearing slippers. So we got it, barefoot is the way to go.

Zen Hideaway

Seated on these 2 swings before the actual one… needed some practice?

When it’s our turn, it started to rain. But we were undeterred. I went on first and my mind was just blank. No safety harness and it didn’t help that I have short legs ya. But another housekeeper was there to manage the swing which gave us an added sense of security.
Here we go! Thanks to the housekeeper for looking over us.

So Glad we did it! Quite an memorable experience for us and our driver was surprised we made it back haha. He asked us if we are sure we want to do this beforehand… Guess he didn’t have enough confidence on us lol.

Overall, this is recommended for those who plan to travel in Bali and would love a bit of excitement in their itinerary. There’s good reviews on this place of Zen Hideaway too if you are thinking of staying there. Have received some enquiries on how to get here. Basically it’s located at this airbnb place named Zen Hideaway. You don’t have to book this place to use the swing. We messaged them and they gave us a time to use. I believe it’s the same window period for outsiders to use the swing before their guests check-in. It cost around 250,000idr per pax, allowing 30 minutes usage. But trust me, you will be off the swing after a while. 🙂
